“A native of Periavurrai Estate. I had an accident when i was 4 years old and lost one eye. I went to school in Munnar but didn’t know what I would do with my life. My accident and loss of sight left me feeling less capable.

I joined as a school bus attendant at Srishti in 1992. I was fascinated by the printer installed at the Vocational Training Centre, I joined as a printer. Over the years I have grown to understand the finer aspects of printing and have been handling all the printing assignments and orders for Athulya Paper Studio. The plantation offices of Kanan Devan Hills Plantation Company have a constant requirement for printed stationery. I set-up the paper and content to be printed on office stationery that we make for them. The High Range School and the High Range Hospital also use our services for their annual printing requirements. I also handle all the print requirements for our welfare institutes under Srishti.

I married Bhanumanthy who is a dyer in Aranya Natural - The Natural DyeShop here at Srishti. I have found my passion and I have realised that I am a perfectionist and have a keen attention to detail. I feel a sense of purpose. I look forward to work everyday and am very confident now.”

The Paper Studio – Athulya Paper Studio today rehabilitates 40 adults who pulp, dry & craft paper.

In paper-making, a dilute suspension consisting mostly of separate cellulose fibres in water is drained through a sieve-like screen, so that a mat of randomly interwoven fibres is laid down. Water is further removed from this sheet by pressing with a hydraulic press. Once dry, a generally flat, uniform and strong sheet of paper is achieved.

The art, science and technology of paper-making addresses the methods, equipment and materials used to make paper used in printing, writing, packaging.
